Summit Lake Campground is located 15 miles northeast of Steamboat Springs, on Buffalo Pass, at an elevation of 10,300 feet. A high clearance vehicle is recommended for the Buffalo Pass Road, which accesses the campground. Travel 2 miles north of Steamboat Springs on Routt County Road 36 (Strawberry Park Road), then 13 miles northeast on Routt County Road 38 (Buffalo Pass Road). Summit Lake Campground has 16 campsites with tables and fireplace grates, a water system (seasonal), and vault toilets. No trash service is available. Pack-it-in, Pack-it-out policy! The maximum spur length is 22 feet.

This lake lies on the edge of Mt. Zirkel Wilderness Area, since it is not in the Wilderness Area itself you can dive all the way to it.  It is do able in most vehicles with high clearance recommended, 4wd depending on weather conditions.  It is usually fishable from early July to October.  Hand powered crafts are allowed so it is a great place to take the canoe.  Summit Lake is at N4032.752' Latitude and W10640.971' Longitude with an elevation of 10,331 ft. 

Summit Lake is shallow lake that holds good numbers of brook trout and cutthroat trout. Camping is permitted in designated campsites only for a fee.
